Fanoos sat down with Egyptian musician and composer Ramzy Labib of Cairo for this special music issue.

It's so good to see you again! Tell us how you got started in music. I have been playing music since I was a child, about five years old. My father bought me a very small accordion. I started to get to know the accordion and with time I started playing. What significance does the accordion have in Egyptian Music? The accordion was originally a Western Musical instrument, but the Egyptians succeeded in introducing the Eastern tone or quarter tone to it successfully. This is a feature that does not exist in Western music, which is why the accordion became one of the most important instruments in Eastern music When you compose original music for dancers, what details do you consider? First, I ask the dancer what their music needs in terms of feelings, fast rhythms and strokes. There are no parts of the music that a dancer cannot imagine.

What is it like to play for dance rs at shows? I feel everything as I play the music for the dancers and experience the emotions and communicate with the dancer to express them. What do you wish dancers would consider more when choosing their music? I hope that dancers will consider choosing their music that suits their level of bellydancing. What do you hope for the future of your career? I wish for my career to grow and get higher in it's position and to compose more full albums. How can dancers contact you to have custom music made? Dancers can contact me on Facebook, Instagram or via Whatsapp at +20-106-446-6070
